SENATOR BUHARI ADMONISHES BETTER HANDLING OF FLOOD IN NIGERIA
…as he laments the impacts of flood in Oyo North.
Senator Buhari AbdulFatai on Wednesday 5th July,2023 admonished the Federal Government engineers especially those saddled with the responsibilities of handling flood to implement modern ways of controlling the menace in the country.
He stated this while contributing on a motion brought before the Senate on the need to intervene in the flood crisis in parts of Ogun and Kwara states.
Senator Buhari stated that properties worth of millions and lives of people of Oyo North Senatorial District are always affected every year whenever it floods. He condemned the act of asking National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for relief materials for the victims and urged that instead of that, modern ways of addressing flood must be studied by agencies of government.
“Mr President, since 2015 there is hardly any year we don’t discuss flood. The most annoying aspect of it is that there is always prediction that it is going to happen, and when it happens we start distributing bedsheets, beds and buckets and leave the problem until the following year. There is no year Oyo North people don’t lose properties and lives”. He stated
Records have it that residents around Odo Omosin to some part of Masifa area in Ogbomoso North Local Government area of Oyo North Senatorial District over the years lost lives and properties worth millions of naira to flooding until the Distinguished Senator Dr AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari representing Oyo North Senatorial District facilitated the construction of drainage in these affected areas.
And ever since the construction of this wide drainage pattern, damages as a result of flooding have stopped in these areas.
All over the nation ,flood has been a great problem to human existence and it is high time modern solutions are been sought to put an end to it’s yearly occurrence.
