The Rise Of Asake, Lonely At The Top Exponents
Asake’s started as a floater before gaining admission to read “Dramatic Arts”.
Dramatic Arts didn’t change his life but the friends he met at O.A.U did and the change was indeed dramatic.
While at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)., Asake formed friendships with Yhemolee, Fireboy, Super Boy Cheque, Chinko Ekun, and Blaqbones, all embarking on their music journeys. After graduation in 2016, Yhemolee, Super Boy Cheque, and Asake returned to Lagos without clear plans.
As they headed to Lagos, Yhemolee arranged to stay with a friend in Ajah. In Berger, he gave money to Asake to return to Lagos Island with his family, while Super Boy Cheque, whose parents were in Ogun, remained with Yhemolee in Ajah.
Yhemolee started posting comedy skits and gained Instagram fame when Don Jazzy and Tunde Ednut reposted his funny videos. He became an influencer and entered crypto, offering financial stability and housing to Asake, who struggled with his music career.
While Super Boy Cheque, Chinko, and FireBoy found success with Phyno’s Penthauze and Olamide’s YBNL, Asake struggled and repeatedly reached out to Olamide for a record deal since 2018, receiving no response.
Yhemolee, a “Nightlife influencer,” seized an opportunity in 2022 when Olamide inquired about a friend. Yhemolee introduced Asake and sent “Omo Ope,” impressing Olamide.
Olamide did a verse to Asake’s song, surprising him. Asake was in disbelief until Yhemolee played the verse, making Asake emotional with tears of joy before celebrating loudly.
Asake’s hit track “Omo Ope” with Olamide propelled his career. Olamide invited him to join YBNL; Asake agreed immediately, sealing his success story.
Within a year, Asake, once an emerging artist, became a global sensation, filling the O2 arena, thanks to the unwavering support and connection of his friend, Yhemolee.
