Senator Buhari Abdulfatai has stated that the quests for economic diversification and foreign direct investment which are parts of the current administration’s policy thrust would remain an illusion if the current development on flight delay and cancellation is not addressed.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation and Aerospace Development stated this today on the floor of the Senate while moving a motion on Incessant Delayed and Cancelled Flights by Airline Operators in Nigeria.
“This development is worrisome as air travel is one of the most reliable, dependable and quicker means of transportation often undertaken for business/official purposes and to keep to other scheduled appointments, which are usually time bound.
Therefore, unwarranted flights delay and cancellations are counterproductive to the socio-economic growth and development of the country”. He explained.
While contributing, the duo of Senators Mongunu Muhammed and Abba Moro condemned the practice of Airline Operators for barbaric attitude on flight delay and cancellation without any compensation or provision of hotel and meal in some cases or outright cancellation, thus, subjecting passengers to untoward hardship.
The Senate subsequently directed on the Senate Committee on Aviation and Aerospace Development to quickly summon the stakeholders in Aviation sector and unravel the circumstances.
