Distinguished Senator Dr AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari, the legislator representing Oyo North Senatorial District in the Upper Chamber has described the death of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Olayiwola III, The Iku Baba Yeye, Alaafin Of Oyo Kingdom as a touching and painful one to the entire nation.
This was contained in his condolence message through his media office, premiumnewsnig.com exclusively reports.
The message reads thus according to the leading contender in the forthcoming 2023 Oyo State Gubernatorial race on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) ;
” I extend my condolences to the Oyomesi, great sons and daughters of Oyo and the generality of Yoruba people on the passing away of our revered traditional ruler, Oba (Dr) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo.
The death of Kabiesi Alaafin is a touching and painful one to the entire nation for his unforgettable roles towards the progress and stability of this country. He was an advocate of peaceful coexistence of
Yoruba people and people of other tribes. He will be sorely missed.
As a people, the death of Oba Adeyemi is a loss to the Yoruba race. Kaabiesi was a reservoir of knowledge of Yoruba culture and history. He used the exalted stool of Alaafin to strengthen and project the traditional institutions of Yoruba worldwide.
Baba was a walking encyclopedia with vast knowledge on all areas of life. My times with him while alive had impacted me with many life lessons which I carry about, most especially when i was Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters. His native intelligence was second to none. He was always frank and direct and would not mince words in speaking truth to powers. A great defender of Nigerian masses was Baba.
As painful as his exit is, Baba died as an achiever. He ruled his subjects for a long and prosperous reign of 52 years – the longest ever reigned Alaafin in history. He was blessed with great and accomplished children and lived to see many glorious era in Yoruba history.
This is consoling.
I pray for the soul of Oba Adeyemi to rest in peace, and God shall forgive all his shortcomings and grant him Aljannat Firdaus on the day of accountability.
