The former third term lawmaker representing Ogo Oluwa / Surulere Federal Constituency in the Federal House Of Representatives, Hon Odebunmi Dokun Olusegun, has urged Nigerians to engage in peaceful protest as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.
The former Chairman, House Committee On Information with other concerned stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) engaged the youths and students and sensitized them to shun violent protest as it will have damaging effect on the economy and foster more hardship on the Nigerian people.
According to Okanlomo Bunvic, as the lawmaker is being fondly called by his growing supporters, ”
The handwriting on the wall concerning the intended protest calls for concern as some politicians want to use the avenue to score cheap political points.You have the right to protest. It is your fundamental fundamental right but it should be done in a peaceful way and in accordance with the law. Nigeria is still recovering from the pains of the recent #EndSARS protests.
“The #EndSARS protests saw the destruction of a lot of valuable properties and the disruption of people’s livelihoods. “We cannot afford to repeat such a scenario, as the country is still grappling with the aftermath of those events.”
And to our security operatives be more professional in handling protest and the protesters. Exercise restraint and avoid the use of excessive force.
The government is aware of our challenges, thus working hard to input friendly measures to alleviate our challenges and give us the Nigeria of our dream”.
On measures to cushion the effects of the economic hardship by the Tinubu led administration, Hon Bunvic said, ” the Tinubu led administration has initiated some friendly policies such as, the intervention fund for entrepreneurs, local government autonomy, CNG initiatives, distribution of food items and funds to members of the public, the directives to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to sell crude oil to Dangote Refinery at naira rate, students loan and other policies that will give the masses hope of a better tomorrow.
The lawmaker cautioned the Nigerian people against violent protest and assured them of the President’s zeal to fix Nigeria for the betterment of the people.
Among other party stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the sensitization event which was held at the Party Secretariat ,Oke Ado, Ibadan was Hon Afeez Bolaji Repete, Hon Dapo Lam Adesina, Hon Muraina Ajibola, Hon Kolawole Raji and Hon Sunday Adepoju.
