Federal Government Approves Cultural Studies Institution In Ogbomoso.

…as CEO visits Soun to inspect site, academic activities to commence this year.

Ogbomoso continues to take bold strides on the national stage, as the ancient city has officially been confirmed as one of the takeoff locations for the newly established Nigerian ACADEMY for Cultural Studies (NACUS) — a specialized monotechnic powered by the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), under the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy.

The Executive Secretary/CEO of NICO, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, paid a courtesy visit to the palace of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, to formally discuss the commencement and establishment of the institution.

The NACUS Ogbomoso campus is one of four pilot campuses approved by the Federal Government, with others located in Lagos, Cross River, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The monotechnic is slated to begin academic activities in 2025, InsideOgbomoso reports.

During his royal engagement, Otunba Ajiboye emphasized the urgent need for cultural revival in Nigeria, noting that:

“We have almost lost everything with respect to our culture because of the disrespect we are giving to our culture due to several factors that are not important to mention. With the approval of President Tinubu, and in order to protect our culture, heritage, and values, the Nigerian Academy for Cultural Studies was established.”

The monarch during his speech said in his ancient modern palace says, this permanent site which is 10 acres of land and the temporal take off site which have all infrastructure needed to kickstart the institution in Ogbomoso is donated in good faith, we’re investing in future of our children and our culture, our culture in nigeria has lost his identity and we must act now to preserve who we are, our science and technology. therefore on behalf of the good people of Ogbomosoland we welcome NACUS to Ogbomoso with open arms, we are happy that cultural reawakening revival for southwest and Nigeria is starting in Ogbomoso. Our history, our herbs and lots.

Following the meeting, Otunba Ajiboye was taken on a guided tour of the temporary site of NACUS Ogbomoso — generously donated by the monarch — featuring well-structured facilities including classrooms, male and female hostels, lecture halls, road networks, a football field, and a fenced compound.

A permanent site spanning over 10 acres, also donated by His Imperial Majesty through the elega community, is earmarked for further development by the Federal Government. This monumental gesture by the monarch was applauded as a forward-thinking move for the cultural and educational empowerment of not just Ogbomoso, but Nigeria at large.

The NACUS is mandated to offer Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma programs, with full accreditation and curriculum approval already secured from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The monotechnic seeks to instill cultural pride and provide in-depth education on Nigeria’s diverse cultural landscape, while producing experts in cultural policy, heritage preservation, and creative industry development.

Ogbomoso’s inclusion as a takeoff city highlights the town’s growing significance as a hub of cultural, educational, and infrastructural development.
