NASS Mid-Term Report : Senator Buhari Leads As Oyo Federal Lawmakers Garner 81 Bills
Law making, which is aimed at establishing standards, maintaining order, resolving disputes, and protecting liberties and rights, is the primary responsibility of every legislator at all levels of governance, local, state and federal levels.
In the developed nations, sponsoring and co-sponsoring bills determine, to a larger extent, how much forward-looking and intellectually balanced a legislator is.
Sadly, reverse is the case in the developing nations, Nigeria inclusive, where electorates in most cases choose incapable leaders to pilot such sensitive posts due to some system and societal conundrum.
The inability to elect competent candidates is one of the reasons why we are still like breast sucking babies in the global democratic settings.
According to the Order Paper Nigeria and as released by the Nigeria Senate, termed ; NASS Mid-Term Report Card Of The 9th Assembly, of all the Federal Lawmakers from Oyo State, comprising of fourteen(14) members at the House of Representatives and three(3) senators, making a total number of 17 lawmakers,we still have lawmakers with meagre numberof bills. Does it mean Nigeria laws need no amendment again?
Senator Buhari Abdulfatai who represents Oyo North and doubles as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Land Transport, representing Oyo North Senatorial District, has always proved to be responsive, responsible and a proactive lawmaker who knows his onions when it comes to legislation and other off the floor of the house activities expected of an elected public officer.
The Senator is the one with highest number of bills. He netted fourteen (14) bills out of the total of the twenty six (26) bills so far sponsored by all the three (3) senators from Oyo State.
Among the bills sponsored by Senator Buhari include , Federal University of Agriculture, Oke Ogun (EstablishmentBill), Nigeria Roads Maintenance Amendment Bill, Nigeria Political Parties Debates Commission Bill, Energy Commission of Nigeria (Repeal and Reenactment) Bill, ) A Bill for an Act to provide for the establishment of the public health institutions trust fund charged, Cyber Crime Act(Prohibition, Prevention) Amendment Bill.
In the Federal House Of Representatives, Honourable Ajibola Saubana Muraina of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), representing Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, leads with twelve (12) bills followed by Honourable Odebunmi Olusegun of the All Progressives Congress APC representing Ogo Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, who has a total of ten (10) bills to his credit.
A working society, like in the developed nations, needs well structured sectors or systems as the case might be, which can only come into fruition with humane friendly laws enacted by lawmakers who are experienced and have vast knowledge of legislation.
It is therefore of hope that all stakeholders and players in the polity will support Senator AbdulFatai Omotayo
Buhari in his selfless ambition to emerge as the APC Flagbearer and subsequent victory in the forthcoming 2023 Oyo Gubernatorial Race, so that he can use his experience to ensure that enabling laws are enacted and implemented to fix Oyo State on the path of prosperity come 2023 and beyond.
God Bless Oyo State
