SENATE MOURNS SOUN OF OGBOMOSO

…as the red chamber observe a minute silence for the late monarch

The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has mourned the demise of Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba (Dr). Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi JP CFR, CON, Ajagungbade III, who joined his ancestors on Sunday, 12th December, 2021 at the age of 95.

While presenting his motion on Wednesday during plenary, Senator Buhari AbdulFatai described late Soun of Ogbomoso as an epitome of development to Ogbomoso land, Oyo State and Nigeria at large.

“Mr President, Distinguished colleagues, the Senate may be aware that late Kabiesi’s contributions to his domains, Oyo State and Nigeria at large are countless but notable ones include the creation of four additional local government councils, Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Federal Technical College, Ogbomoso, Industries, Police Stations among others” He asserted.

Senator Buhari stated that Oba Oyewunmi served in various capacities, both in the state and national level which include Member of Leader of Thoughts and Traditional Rulers, Member of Federal Government Hajj Delegation and Member of the National Council of Traditional Rulers.

He recalls that late Soun was the Pioneer Chancellor of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos in Plateau State and also a recipient of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) and Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFR).


Distinguished BAF later urged the Senate to observe a minute silence in honour of late Soun. Other prayers in Senator Buhari’s motion include the need for the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to send delegates to visit and condole with the royal family, the government and good people of Oyo State as well as urge the Federal Government to immortalise the late monarch.

In his response, the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan called on the Senators to observe a minute silence in honour of the late Soun and prayed for the departed soul.
