Senator Buhari Moves Motion On Urgent Need To Complete Ogbomoso-Oyo Roads
…As Senate urges Ministry of Works to complete the projects.
Senator Buhari AbdulFatai has called on Federal Government to urgently complete the rehabilitation of Ogbomoso/Oyo Trunk A road and also finish-up the construction of the new Ogbomoso/Oyo expressway for ease of movement for commuters because transportation is vital and it is the key component that facilitate the distribution of goods both within and beyond the country’s borders.
Senator Buhari stated this today on the floor of Senate while presenting a motion on Ogbomoso/Oyo Trunk A and New Ogbomoso/Oyo roads. “ In the last one month, the people of Ogbomoso land have been plunged into an unprecedented crisis, occasioned by a tragic petrol tanker’s accident that occurred on the road, which resulted in traffic gridlock, rendered some inhabitants of the area homeless, paralysed economic activities as well as claimed some innocent lives”. He said
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation and Aerospace Development expressed concern that the road especially the bad portion which is less than 500 meters long had become a death trap as over ten accidents had occurred within just few days, leading to loss of lives, injuries and devastating impacts on businesses, whereby perishable goods from the North have been ruined resulting to loss of hard-earned money of people.
While contributing to the motion, Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi Central alluded to the importance of the road that connect Southwest and Northern part of Nigeria could be abandoned for years without completion. He reminded the Senate that Ogbomoso/Oyo road was awarded in 2005 but work started in 2007 and since then the work has not finished, thus, become an eyesore for those who traverse the road.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio while putting the prayers before the Senators observed and urged Senator Buhari to add that Senate Committee on Works should report back to the Senate after meeting the Minister of Works in three weeks time. All the prayers contained in the motion were subsequently approved by the Senate.
