The Chairmen, Senate Committee on Land Transport, Senator Dr Abdulfatai Omotayo Buhari today presented the report of the Committee on Petroleum Tankers Safety Bill 2023 to the Senate at the plenary.
The bill which seeks for an act to provide for efficient legal framework for the regulation of free traffic and use of petroleum tankers to convey petroleum products and other related matters was presented for the Senate to favourably consider it for third reading, premiumnewsnig.com reports.
Addressing the Senate, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Land Transport, Senator Buhari AbdulFatai stated that the objectives of the bill which was sponsored by Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Uba (Anambra South) include eliminating practice that are averse to freight and traffic petroleum haulage in Nigeria, promoting petroleum commercial cargo haulage safety and reduce accidents arising from the transportation of petroleum products to the length and breadth of Nigeria.
Contributing, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi stated that the bill will ameliorate the traffic situation in Nigeria especially Lagos State and also deal with tankers unprofessional parking in the country.
It would be recalled that the Senate had on 10th December, 2019 after second reading of the bill committed it to Senate Committee on Land Transport for further legislation.
