I have found time to study the Distinguished Senator Dr AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari but the more I study him the more I become convinced that BAF is a special breed.
I have never seen him move around with convoys while at home, he does not even have.
Like an ordinary person, in his usual jalab and affordably very simple attire but not charming of a Nigerian legislator, he will trek from his Ibapon family house to many places in town.
You do not need to wait for hours at the gate or bribe any of his aides to gain access to him, as you will meet him sitting in the open space by the side of the street in front of his family compound, surrounded by many people, jesting and having discussions on many issues.
The Omoluabi Senator is the most accessible politician I have ever known in my political history.
In one of our open discussions few months to the 2019 elections I said to him, ” Sir, I beg you in the name of God , the elections are fast approaching. You need some security guards, unlike before, to mount round you.
Sir, you can even hire the services of these private firms with their cars, at least til the end of the elections, please , Sir.
He looked at me thrice and I was astonished at what he said.
” Tunji, Tunji , Tunji, how many times have I called you ? The number one security in life is Allah. Except He protects, nobody can keep you safe.
” Tunji, hire security guards and their cars ? He laughed while busy attending to messages on his phone. Do you know how much it will cost me monthly? I am disappointed in you, Tunji.
” I appreciate your genuine love for me, Tunji, but don’t you think it will be so wise for me to be channeling that crazy spendings to building human capacity ?”
I adjusted my seat.
“There are many people that need just two hundred thousand naira (#200,000:00) only to start something meaningful in life.
“Moreover, Tunji, my belief and target is to do exceptionally well for the constituents and always put my trust in God for divine guidance, directions and promotion. I will never subscribe to your request.
Lolade, ori pe Tunji gan funny sha? (Can’t you see that Tunji is funny ?)
I asked again, Sir, are you saying those who do such, to the extent of going into debt because of these flashy lifestyles are not humane, that they are very insensitive?
He responded, ” Tunjiiiii, your question is rhetorical, BAF responded.
Distinguished Senator Dr AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari is the true definition of modesty, accessibility and simplicity.
The cyberspace has been flooded with appreciation to BAF for training six hundred and fifty (650) constituents and participants across the thirty three (33) local government areas of Oyo State in January.
The construction of the two hundred and fifty (250) Capacity CBT fully furnished centre which BAF facilitated to Ogbomoso North Local Government, beside INEC Office at Egbeji Junction commenced in 1st February, 2022.
This is in addition to the ten (10) other ICT centres facilitated to the three local government areas in Ogbomoso zone which BAF represents excluding the ten (10) other local government areas in Oke Ogun.
Ogbomoso, Oyo North, Oyo State and Nigeria, as a whole, is blessed to have a person of his calibre in public office.
Oyo State can’t wait to have you as the Executive Governor of the state in 2023 and beyond, by God’s grace, to reposition her to real pace setting status.
