BEING THE TEXT OF THE ADDRESS BY HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY OBA GHANDI AFOLABI OLAOYE ORUMOGEGE III SOUN OF OGBOMOSO LAND ON THE OCCASION OF THE INAUGURATION OF THE CENTRAL COUNCILOF OFBOMOSO SONS AND DAUGHTERS UNIVERSAL (CCOSDU) Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye

1. I am delighted to warmly welcome you all on this historic occasion that we are set to take another significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to further advance the development of Ogbomoso Land. You will recall that in one of my recent public comments, I underscored the fact that Ogbomoso is blessed to have numerous well accomplished sons and daughters who genuinely love their ancestral home and are committed to pursuing the actualisation of that development. Therefore, any decision to undertake the focused mobilisation of such a pool of prized human resources in that regard and galvanise them into a well-structured and coordinated group is very appropriate.

2. In realisation of the aforementioned objective and after due considerations, it gives me a great pleasure to announce the formation of a new umbrella socio-cultural organisation for all Ogbomoso societies, clubs and groups that are existing both at home and in the diaspora as well as desirous individuals in those spheres. The organisation to be known as Central Council of Ogbomoso Sons and Daughters Universal (CCOSDU) will be the sole voice of Ogbomoso Land on all issues concerning its peace, safety, security, economy and overall development.

3. As a first step, CCOSDU shall operate on the basis of a Constitution which would be passed by representatives of the constituent societies, clubs, groups and individuals after they enroll with it. The procedures for such enrolment would be made public within the next one week. At this juncture, permit me to acquaint you with the institution of a Transition Committee to pilot the affairs of CCOSDU for a minimum period of two years, leading to the emergence of an elected Executive Council subsequently. The Transition Committee shall have as its Chairman cum Legal Adviser, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo SAN, Rear Admiral Jacob Ajani (retired) as General Secretary, Professor Thomas Oyelami as Vice Chairman -1 and Mr Banji Ojo as Vice Chairman -2. The other key posts on the Committee are currently being filled by other equally competent and committed Ogbomoso sons and daughters and their identities would be made public by the General Secretary in due course.

4. In a related development, a high-powered Committee is being tasked to plan and build a befitting Civic Centre for Ogbomoso to replace the outdated and inadequate Soun Ogunlola Hall. When completed, the Civic Centre will host all future events and activities involving a large gathering of Ogbomoso sons and daughters. This Committee shall liaise with the five Local Governments of Ogbomoso Land and relevant Oyo State authorities to procure a suitable land space and has about two years to deliver the Civic Centre project.

5. Finally, I wish to sincerely congratulate these glorious children of Ajilete for having been found worthy to undertake these very important assignments. While praying for their continued sound health, knowledge, wisdom and understanding to deliver excellently on their assignments; let me seize this opportunity to appeal to all and sundry to wholeheartedly support and adequately cooperate with them. God bless us all as well as our land. “Ogbomoso a gbe wa o, amin”!
