Youth development which is promoted through activities and experiences that help youth develop social, ethical, emotional, physical, and cognitive competencies is a process that prepares young persons to meet the challenges of adolescence, adulthood and even achieve their full potentials beyond the stage.
Social vices are bad traits, unhealthy and negative behaviors that are against the morality of a society and are so frowned at by members of the society.
The list is not limited but
include cultism, internet fraud/cybercrime, illicit sex, drug addiction, evil or immoral behavior such as murder, examination malpractices,pipeline vandalism, thuggery, kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, killing and other criminal tendencies.
Among the causes of these increasing societal problems are peer pressure, broken homes or negligence on the parts of the parents.
According to the Distinguished Senator Dr (Prince) AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari, in one of his presentations,
the future of every nation depends on the quality of her youths. The lawmaker also outlined communication, competence, confidence, connection, caring/compassion and character as basic attributes any youth must possess.
Senator Buhari who has because of accessibilty, eloquence, practical presentations of ideas and generousity been the toast and beautiful bride of Students’ Unions across the state always keeps preaching peace among the youths to avoid social vices and the utmost need to reposition themselves ahead of future national challenges and not forgetting the vital roles that all parents and guidance must play to place the foot of these youth in the righteous path.
The efforts of the lawmaker at developing the youths is unprecedented in the history of representation in Oyo North and the state at large.
To him,an idle hand is the devil’s workshop and youths should be leaders of today because youths are already coming up with beautiful innovations that improve the world which include many technologies such facebook that has impacted so much on our economy market and many more, so they must be well equipped to be strategically positioned for nation building.
To ensure that these lofty ideas come to fruition, the lawmaker, an Harvard trained personality,has displayed his preachings in the style of representation. He has not only made representation youths inclusive but also facilitated projects which which are youths focused. For instance,the lawmaker has seen the education ability of youths beyond pen paper,he has seen that the computer has taken over so many literacy skill. Because of this,the lawmaker has facilitated more than fifty two (52) ICT centres across the thirteen (13) local government areas that constitute his Senatorial District.
He understands that youths sustainable empowerment can not be better defined than youths sustainable employment so he has given over hundred constituents employment in different federal ministries and parastatals while more are still on the waiting list.
In another dimension,a total of over 4000 youths have been empowered with skills by the Distinguished lawmaker in various fields,ranging from agriculture, ICT, Tiling, tye and dye, soap making and disinfectants, hairdressing and barbering to mention but a few.
All these selected individuals are being fed during these trainings and given transport allowances in the course of the trainings while start up packs are equally given to them at the end of each programme.
Testimonies abound from these human friendly initiatives of Senator AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari as these incentives have removed many youths off the streets and are now doing well in their various chosen fields.
To make the issues of drop outs a thing of the past, the lawmaker, unprecedented in the history of Oyo State, has paid the WAEC Fees of more than six hundred (600) selected students from public schools in the thirteen 13) local government areas of
Oyo North Senatorial District.
To ensure conducive learning environment for effective and efficient teaching and learning, Distinguished Senator Dr (Prince) AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari has facilitated the building of blocks of classrooms with stores and offices across Oyo North Senatorial District.
His love for sports and as another key avenue to developing the youths cannot be quantified.As a former footballer, mesmerizing pacy dribbler, who scored fantastic history making goals during his playing days, the former Chairman of Crown Football Club of Ogbomoso, has used this experience to equally leave indelible marks that makes the history of many clubs in Oyo North Senatorial District incomplete without the mention of his names and ample number of players of national and international repute have been developed through this.
Senator AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari was the Patron of the Prestigious Taiwo Ogunjoba Gold Cup Annual Football Competition, the Best Preseason Tournament in Nigeria that has produced great talents within and outside Nigeria.
His annual BAF Football Competition has been the best in terms of organisation and prize giving and he hopes to venturing into other areas where more talents can be identified and developed to be more useful in the society.
