FROM GRIEF TO RELIEF: HOW HON. OLAMIJUWONLO ALAO-AKALA TOOK ORIIRE’S CRY TO THE FLOOR OF THE HOUSE
Leadership is best measured in moments of crisis.
On May 16, 2026, the people of Oriire Local Government Area and the wider Ogbomoso zone were thrown into anguish after the attack on Community High School, Esiele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School, where pupils and teachers were abducted by armed criminals.
At a time when urgent action was needed, the Member representing Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire Federal Constituency, Hon. Olamijuwonlo Ayodeji Alao-Akala, took the matter to the House of Representatives through a Motion of Urgent Public Importance. On the floor of the Green Chamber, he drew national attention to the plight of the victims and their families.

His intervention was a call for swift federal action, stronger security deployment, and coordinated efforts to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers. It also reflected the pain and fears of the affected communities.
The motion ensured the incident received national attention and showed that the people of Ogbomoso and Oriire had a representative ready to use every constitutional avenue to defend their interests.
Now that the victims have regained their freedom, the episode stands as a reminder of the value of responsive representation. Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala’s action amplified the voices of his constituents and reinforced the need for proactive leadership in times of adversity.
Indeed, when Oriire needed a voice, he spoke. When Ogbomoso demanded action, he acted.
