Oyo APC Condemns Makinde’s Alleged Clampdown on Opposition’s Campaigns

As political parties, candidates and their supporters warm up for the electioneering campaigns ahead of the next year general elections, the All Progressives Congress APC in Oyo state has alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde was intentional about plans to clampdown on the opposition by restraining them carrying out their campaign activities as necessary.

The major opposition party was apparently reacting to the notice released by the state government recently which announced the plans to place some regulatory and financial burden on the opposition candidates and their supporters who might want to use outdoor advertisement facilities such as billboards for their campaigns.

Oyo APC, in a statement issued at the weekend and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare, stated that it has uncovered the plans, by the State government, to deny opposition candidates access to some outdoor advertisement opportunities with a view to making only the candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) popular in all parts of the state at the expense of others.

“While it is known to the blind that the ruling party in the state is responsible for the defacing and destruction of all the outdoor information and awareness materials such as billboards and posters belonging to the opposition figures, the latest development regarding the directive given to the Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA) to clampdown on non-APM campaigners is a mockery of democracy as it is shameful and laughable at the same time.

“The state government may have come out with its own selfish, draconian and horrible rules and measures aimed at silencing the opposition but we can assure the general public that this development will not stop the APC Party from reaching the electorate with our Renewed Hope Agenda message and this get them to cast their votes in our favor in 2027. To this end, we urge Gov. Makinde and his agents to desist from acts capable of undermining democracy and the rule of law in the country.

“At the same time, the whole world is aware of the Makinde administration’s spirited efforts to cover up the truth regarding the numerous atrocities which have been committed since May 29, 2019 as they use a section of the media to mislead the public but the fact remains that falsehood may travel for many years while the truth would overtake it in just a day in a speed of light. The day of reckoning is almost and nothing can stop the masses from reclaiming their mandate from power mongers and fake democrats.” Sadare added.
