MIDTERM NASS RECORD: Again, Senator Buhari Leads Other Senators From Oyo State With 4 Motions
Distinguished Senator Dr Abdulfatai Omotayo Buhari (APC, Oyo North) has led other senators from Oyo State with four (4) motions, according to the official data by the National Assembly, premiumnewsnig.com reports.
The lawmaker sponsored four (4) motions according to the Mid Term data and as equally reported by WWW.OrderPaper. Ng.
The Legislator who doubles as the 2023 gubernatorial hopeful of the All Progressives Congress (APC) sponsored a motion on the disturbing dimension of cyber-attacks and criminality.
In his submissions, he urged the Federal Government “to continue to engage relevant stakeholders with a view to stimulating a collective reflection among them and articulating a national and broad based approach to keeping the country ahead of cyber challenge; and as a matter of urgency establish a Cyber – Security Agency to take appropriate care of Nigerian Cyberspace.”
Similarly, Senator AbdulFatai Buhari sponsored a motion on the need to investigate alleged killing of civilians by men of the Nigerian Custom Service in Iseyin, breaking of shops in Ogbomoso and Ibadan and the need for the men of the Nigerian Custom Service to maintain a more professional disposition in the exercise of their official duties.
He urged the Senate “to mandate the Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff; and Police Affairs to jointly interface with the hierarchy of the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Custom Service towards ensuring that the incident is thoroughly investigated and any wrongdoer brought to book.”
However, Senator Ademola Balogun (PDP, Oyo South) gave the State recognition with two petitions tally, and one motion during the period with Senator Teslim Folarin ( APC Oyo Central) had zero motions and petitions.
On a global scale, the senators from Oyo State contributed 3.5% and 0.5% of the total motions and petitions sponsored at midterm ( two (2) years review), 2019 to 2021.
Meanwhile, Senator AbdulFatai Omotayo Buhari led in the bills sponsorship tally among his colleagues from the state and he ranked fifth (5th) in the bills productivity index among his entire (109) colleagues in the ninth Senate.
A motion is a proposal moved by a law maker in accordance with well established rules that the Senate do something, order something done or express an opinion with regard to some matter.
Petition, on the other hand, is a formal written request sent in to parliament by members of the public calling for some form of action by the Legislature.
In Nigeria, petitions must be presented on behalf of the petitioner by a lawmaker.
