Senator Buhari Storms Oyo APC Secretariat, Declares 2027 Gubernatorial Ambition, Rallies Party for Tinubu’s Reelection

In a show of force and clarity of purpose, All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant Senator Buhari AbdulFatai Ph.D , alongside a large delegation of supporters, stormed the Oyo State APC Secretariat on Monday to formally declare his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

The declaration, which drew party stalwarts, youth leaders, and grassroots mobilizers, marked the most definitive entry yet into the Oyo APC governorship race.

Addressing party leaders and members at the secretariat, Senator Buhari called for unity behind President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ’s reelection bid in 2027, describing it as critical to sustaining Nigeria’s economic reforms and national stability.

“President Tinubu deserves our full support for a second term,” he said. “The Renewed Hope Agenda is beginning to yield results, and continuity at the federal level is in the best interest of Oyo State and Nigeria.”

Turning to the state contest, Senator Buhari made a direct appeal for a free, fair, and transparent gubernatorial primary election in Oyo State. He warned against shortcuts that could weaken the party’s chances in the general election.

“Any aspirant calling for consensus is not being realistic,” he stated. “The candidate who emerges through a genuine, open process is the one who will have the legitimacy and structure to win the main governorship election. Consensus only produces a candidate who cannot stand the test of a general election.”

The senator, who has won three consecutive senatorial elections in Oyo North, appealed to APC leaders and members to back his ambition, citing his track record of representation, grassroots connection, and statewide acceptance.

“I am not a stranger to the people of Oyo State,If given the opportunity to serve as governor, I will carry everyone along and bring outstanding, deserved development to every zone of the state.”He said

Senator Buhari pledged an administration focused on agriculture, infrastructure, health, security, and job creation, stressing that his governance model would be inclusive and data-driven.

Party members at the event described the declaration as “energizing” and “long overdue,” noting that the senator’s reputation for competence and composure sets him apart in the current field of aspirants.

The declaration signals the start of what is expected to be a high-stakes contest for the APC ticket in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
